To fully share our feelings and impressions, we decided to ask three special questions to each of the German exchange students. (Each bullet point represents a different exchange student.)
What was your absolute highlight of the exchange?
- The turtle farm Kélonia, followed by a visit to a beautiful beach.
- My highlight on the island was the warmth and beauty of the place.
- My highlight of this Erasmus project was definitely meeting new, very nice people, and experiencing the new culture of Réunion. The island was breathtakingly beautiful, and we did a lot of activities such as snorkeling and visiting a turtle farm.
- My highlight on La Réunion was the Kélonia turtle farm and snorkeling.
- La Réunion was amazing for the Erasmus project – the landscape was stunning, the weather was great, and when snorkeling, we saw many colorful fish!
- My highlight was the breathtaking nature of La Réunion! The hikes through volcanic landscapes, snorkeling in crystal-clear water, visiting the turtle farm, and swimming at the beautiful beaches – every day was a new adventure. I was especially impressed by the waterfalls we discovered and the feeling of being in a completely different world.
- My highlight on the island was snorkeling through a coral reef together.
- My highlight was having 30°C in November and exploring the island while most of my classmates were still in school in Germany.
- The exchange gave me the opportunity to see new landscapes, and the island was simply stunning.
- My highlight was getting to know a new place, meeting new people, and doing beautiful projects together.
What do you think of the Erasmus+ exchange planning?
- I think the idea is great because it allows young people to visit an island for free, a place they probably wouldn’t have visited otherwise.
- It’s a great idea to get to know other cultures and gain new experiences. You can visit parts of the world you might not be able to visit otherwise.
- I think the Erasmus idea is wonderful, as it enables students to participate in an exchange with minimal costs, allowing them to learn about new cultures and discover parts of the world they might not have visited otherwise.
- It’s a good way to get to know other cultures and ways of life.
- I think Erasmus is fantastic because it’s not just an academic enrichment, but also a cultural experience that broadens your horizons and creates unforgettable memories. La Réunion was the perfect place for this – so many opportunities to explore nature and try new things!
- I think it’s great because we discovered a place that many people didn’t know before, and it gave us the opportunity to explore a new corner of the world. It was also great that we could have beautiful experiences even with a limited budget.
- I think it’s a good idea because you get to know other international cultures.
- I think the idea of Erasmus is fantastic. It allows you to discover new places in our vast world, especially ones you might never have visited on your own. The opportunity to meet new people and work on a project together is unique and amazing!
- I think the idea of Erasmus+ is really good because it offers a lot of opportunities to discover and learn about new cultures, landscapes, and experiences.
- I think the idea of Erasmus is great because the program allows us to gain new cultural experiences.
What would you like to pass on to other Erasmus participants?
- Anyone who can should definitely take part in the exchange program to broaden their horizons.
- It’s a great opportunity that should be used.
- Yolo! Try something new. I don’t think any of us regretted it, and everyone took something positive home. Such an opportunity is rare, and everyone should seize it if they can.
- Enjoy your time and explore everything you can – it will create wonderful memories.
- Take the opportunity to be open to new experiences and really discover the culture and nature of the host country. You could experience unforgettable moments, try new things, and enjoy it!
- Be open to new experiences, step out of your comfort zone, and take every chance to explore the island and its culture! Try everything – from hiking to snorkeling – and don’t forget to enjoy the moment.
- Trust the advice of the locals!
- Do some research about where you’re going beforehand.
- If you have the chance, seize it and make the most of it.

- I not only met new people but also got to know others better and more closely. We sat together and talked more. It was an experience I’m really glad I had.
- I got to know my classmates I did the exchange with better, and I also made connections with people from my school I hadn’t paid attention to before.
- Experiences like this help you appreciate the things you once took for granted.
- Erasmus in La Réunion is not just an overseas stay – it’s an adventure that will shape you forever.
- Erasmus showed me a culture I didn’t know, but I found it very beautiful.
- Réunion is such a beautiful island with amazing natural landscapes. The people there are friendly, and I look forward to returning there someday!
